TCS' Passport Seva project set to roll in two weeks

TCS' passport project seems to be finally set for rolling after a long delay.

The company's Passport Seva Project which aims to issue passports in three days flat is set to roll out in a week or two, according to a report in a business daily.

The report quotes a senior ministry of external affairs (MEA) official as saying that the infrastructure was in place, software glitches had been fixed and security issues had been taken care of for the project to roll. The official said an announcement in this regard would be made soon.

According to an agreement between the ministry and TCS, a pilot study was to get under say in Bangalore and Chandigarh in March 2009. The project however, missed its deadline due to delays in setting up the physical infrastructure and technical snags.

The contract for the project implementation valued at Rs1,000 crore was awarded to TCS in October 2008, the implementation timeline for which was the beginning of June 2009. Since June 2009, the project had seen several iterations in its deadline.

The project failed to take off as TCS had reportedly not been able to provide fool-proof software.
