Daimler recalls 85,000 Mercedes Benz in the US over steering problems

Daimler AG, the world's second- largest maker of luxury vehicles, yesterday announced that it is recalling about 85,000 of its cars in the US because of potential steering problems.
As the Stuttgart-based Daimler joins the long list of auto manufacturers recalling vehicles globally, its recall comes just a week after another German car maker BMW issued a recall for 350,800 BMW and Rolls-Royce cars over power brake problems. Daimler's US unit is recalling 2010 Mercedes Benz C-Class and the 2010 and 2011 E-Class Coupé and Cabriolet models in the US.
Daimler said in a report to the US regulator The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the steering systems in the cars "may fail due to the loss of power steering fluid," and could lead to a vehicle crash.
According to the luxury car maker, a connection fitting on the high-pressure power steering line is not working well and is likely that a leakage could occur in the power-steering fluid.
''Owners may not have sufficient control of the vehicle under circumstances such as parking where maximum power steering is required,'' said Daimler.
Daimler said that the owners of these cars should return the cars to the dealers, who will check the potential powering steering systems free of cost.
