BSNL to launch 4G services across India in August
1

State-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will be rolling out 4G services across the country from August, at a time when private telecom companies are already providing 5G services and are thinking of offering 6G services.

Reports citing BSNL officials said its 4G network which showed a peak speed of 40-45 megabit per second during the pilot run, has been rolled out in the premium spectrum band of 700 megahertz (MHz) as well as in 2,100 MHz band.

BSNL has already launched 4G services in Punjab, using the technology developed by a consortium of TCS and state-run telecom research organisation C-DoT and has already reached a subscriber base of 8 lakh.

BSNL, however, has the credit of using indigenous technology for its 4G rollout. The technology developed by TCS-C-DoT is also performing well, with the network achieving stability within 10 months of start of operation in July last year.

BSNL has also awarded contracts worth Rs19,000 crore to TCS, Tejas Networks and state-owned ITI for deploying 4G network which can be upgraded to 5G.

BSNL is also reported to be deploying 1.12 lakh towers for 4G and 5G services across India.
