MTNL has announced its pay-per-second plan today under which both prepaid and postpaid versions have voice and video calls at same rates of just 0.50 paisa per second for calls made to MTNL Delhi and Mumbai networks, and one paisa per second for calls made to any other network across India.

SMS rates under this plan are 25 paise for local, Re1 for national and Rs2.50 for international SMS, an official release said.

MTNL also introduced the lowest-in-the-industry data usage rate of just 1 paisa per 10KB, applicable to both GPRS and 3G services. The plan thus packages lowest tariffs of voice call/video call/SMS/data services all together.

"MTNL remains committed to providing its customers at both Delhi and Mumbai the most advanced technology services at the most competitive rates. Our pay-per-second plan is the most affordable and shall benefit 4.4 million mobile customers of MTNL, including about 1.65 lakh 3G customers," R S P Sinha, CMD of MTNL, said while launching the plan.

In MTNL Delhi, a customer seeking new prepaid plan can avail this tariff plan by purchasing a SIM kit of MRP Rs100 and a Trump activation / first recharge coupon of Rs49. Thus for a total of Rs149 a new customer can avail pay-per-second tariff plan valid for lifetime along with free talk value of Rs12. In MTNL Mumbai, customers can purchase any SIM kit and use Trump pay-per-second coupon of Rs45 for availing per second billing.

An existing MTNL prepaid (Trump) customer willing to shift to pay-per-second plan has to recharge his connection with a Trump pay-per-second plan voucher of Rs45 through which he will get the pay-per-second plan tariff along with talk-time of Rs15. The tariff validity will be 365 days for such conversion.
