Hyundai Motor India, the Indian arm of the Korean car major, will soon launch diesel versions of the i20 and i10, the two hatchbacks that it introduced in the Indian market last year. The company hopes to attract more customers who are looking for a cheaper fuel option.
While launching i20 earlier this year, the company mentioned the ''overwhelming response to the Hyundai i20 from the automobile media in Europe'', adding that ''Hyundai created a new era in the Indian compact segment by introducing the i10 in 2007''.
The five-door i20 offers a large interior cabin and stylish exteriors, featuring Hyundai`s distinctive design motifs, a body-coloured radiator grille flanked by piercing teardrop headlamps at the front and striking rear light clusters. The i20`s modern lines are further strengthened by neat detailing, including colour-co-ordinated bumpers, sills and wing mirror.
The i20`s well-packaged interior boasts of generous levels of standard equipment. All the i20 models have A/C and heating, tilt and telescopic steering, 60:40 split folding rear seats, dual tone beige interiors, music system, front and rear power windows, refrigerated glove compartment, a multi-information display which includes trip distance, engine running time, calendar, clock, temperature and audio display, and tachometer, as standard.
Wins award: Meanwhile, the Hyundai i30 has been judged the Supreme Winner in the 2009 AA Motoring Excellence Awards in New Zealand. The i30 Diesel Elite swept the field of 52 vehicles to be named both the winner in the compact car class as well as the best car overall.
The annual awards identify and reward excellence amongst new vehicles. They also provide New Zealand motorists with an independent assessment to assist with their car purchases.
AA General Manager of Technical Services, Stella Stocks, says the Hyundai i30 Diesel ''is an excellent and affordable car that performs well in all the areas we assess, particularly road safety. The car goes the extra mile to deliver more than expected in every area, providing all the right answers to buyers demanding honesty and frugality in a compact car purchase."
In winning the compact car class the i30 beat contenders from Honda, Mitsubishi, Peugeot, Subaru and Toyota. The i30 is available in a variety of specification levels with both petrol and clean burning diesel engines and the choice of manual and automatic gearboxes. The range starts from as little as $24,490.
