Auto maker Ford India has announced a recall of 3,072 units of its mid-sized sedan Fiesta produced between October 2010 and December 2011. The company wants to replace a part used in starting of diesel engines.

"We have initiated a field service action to correct a product concern on 3,072 Ford Fiesta TDCi vehicles," Ford India said in a statement.

According to the company, it was writing to customers and asking them to contact their local Ford dealer so that "a new design, waterproof Glow Plug Control Module can be installed free of charge".

"This is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers' safety and satisfaction and no accidents or injuries related to this concern have been reported," the company said.

The 'glow plug control' is heating device to aid starting of diesel engines.

In a similar move, Toyota Kirloskar Motor had earlier this month, recalled 119 units of its sedan Camry, manufactured between March and July 2011 in Japan and sold in India, to rectify a defect in front suspension.

Earlier this month, German luxury car maker Audi had also recalled 6,758 units of A4 sedans in the country, manufactured between November 2011 and October 2014, to upgrade software in airbag control unit.

Seven lakh vehicles had been recalled in India after auto industry body SIAM started voluntary vehicle recalls over safety related issues in July 2012. The auto makers who had announced recalls include Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Ford, Honda, General Motors and Nissan.

''The safety and comfort of our customers are always top priorities at Ford. For their peace of mind and convenience, we have initiated a Field Service Action to correct a product concern on 3,072 Ford Fiesta TDCi vehicles,'' the company said in a statement.
