Apple Inc said its HealthKit health and fitness application platform had been hit by a bug which prevented its release along with the launch of its iOS 8 operating system for iPhones and iPads, Reuters reported.

HealthKit uses various apps on Apple devices to gather data such as blood pressure and weight, and can be viewed by doctors at one place.

HealthKit receives information be sent by regulated medical devices such as glucose monitors with accompanying iPhone apps.

"We're working quickly to have the bug fixed in a software update and have HealthKit apps available by the end of the month," a company spokesperson said in an email.

The company had also pulled a number of healthcare apps from its app stores connecting with HealthKit such as MyFitnessPal and Carrot Fit.

"The MyFitnessPal app, which supports integration with Apple's HealthKit, was temporarily removed from the Apple Store this morning to address some minor issues," MyFitnessPal said in a statement emailed to Reuters.

"We are working with Apple on a solution and will have an updated version of the app, without the HealthKit piece (for the time being), back on the app store shortly," the company said.

Meanwhile Tech2 reported that Apple's iOS 8 was now out for users to download but, there were some facts users needed to know.

First off, the download file size is 1 GB, but the size would vary depending on whether users had been regular with their updates or not, and if they had not updated all the latest iOS 7 builds, the size of their update would likely be bigger.

However, before users could start updating their iPhone or iPad they needed to note that they would be requiring some large storage space to ensure that the download was successful.

While the system update would require around 1GB of space, both iPhone and iPad users would need around 5 GB of free space if they wanted to download and install it on their device.

According to Mashable users would require close to 5.7 GB of free space on their iPhone or iPad to update, while according to a report in Business Insider the requirement would be 4.6 GB.
