Rolls Royce received a $9.6 billion boost this week, as further orders for the Trent engine were announced at the Dubai Air Show.

An order from Emirates Airline, which wants the Trent XWB engines to power up to 120 Airbus A350 XWB aircraft, is potentially worth up to $8.4 billion.

Another order from the aircraft-leasing arm of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise for the Trent XWB engines, to power a new fleet of 30 Airbus A350 XWBs, will result in a contract worth $1.2 billion at list prices.

Deliveries of the A350 XWBs are due to start in 2018.

At the Dubai Air Show it was further announced that Trent 900 engines will power the first Airbus A380 to be purchased for VIP operations.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz al Saud, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has ordered the aircraft, which will be delivered in 2010.

This decision means the Trent 900 has been bought by nine of the 12 operators who have made an engine selection.
